| Halloweenie! |
[Nov. 1st, 2009|01:39 pm] |
Had a blast at my friend's Birthday/Halloween party last night. Girl was born on Halloween, how cool is that?
Don't usually come home at 5am, but fuckin' A, that was awesome!
Started off with a nice little dinner at a restaurant by her old house. Delicious food. Would definitely go back. Met her wonderful friends. Damn, she has awesome friends. I want them to be my friends! And coworkers and classmates and so on. ^__^
Next stop was a haunted house. We all didn't fit into the 2 cars, so I and 2 of the awesome girls and one's BF took a cab. I am a New Yorker, I take cabs all the time. I've taken them in Italy, Spain, France, England and Egypt and I must say, I've seen an array of horrifying driving but I've never met a driver who was asking for an accident so badly. Seriously. I was in the front seat and had a great view of his mad driving skillz yo.
I lost track of all the lights he ran, all the times I yelled "watch out!!," all the near-misses, all the drivers he pissed off and the trail of curses we left in our wake. I know NY has a rep for cursing and road rage, but really it's not that bad. This guy however, might single-handedly be the reason we have that reputation... The fact that it was Halloween didn't help. I think he was looking at the costumes more than at the road. On that note, why are the costumes all so slutty this year? One chick got out of her car with a wedgie and proceeded to hike her bikini bottom higher up into her ass. WTF.
But anyway, on the 12th time the man attempted to insert his wide front end into a spot too small for it while driving at 50mph, the person in front wasn't paying attention and was still moving over and we collided. The accident was inevitable, I was waiting for it. Admittedly, I was expecting it to be a pedestrian that he would hit.
The front guy's left mirror was dangling and the cab's right mirror folded in but was otherwise ok. It was kind of a WTF-Oh-Crap-Are-We-Going-To-Be-Stuck-Here-And-Miss-The-Haunted-House?! moment. Neither driver wanted to get out of the car. A pedestrian witness went over and inspected the cars. The other driver thought the witness was the guy who hit him! At that point I realized the cabbie hadn't budged (I guess I was stunned). I glanced at the cabbie and I honestly think the guy wanted to plow the pedestrian and the driver both out of the way and keep driving. The guy he hit was either a rabbi or dressed as one. He procceeded to make a fuss about his car and the cabbie finally got out. Cabbie guy saw that he had a dent and asked the rabbi about exchanging info. The rabbi floored it and drove off. The cabbie got back in, grumbling about the rabbi being a crazy driver. XD
So yeah, I'm a 27-year old NYer and this was my first accident. After the inital shock wore off, it was kind of fun. I was looking for the infamous lawyers and did the ZOMG-WHIPLASH! pose. XD
After another round of hairpin twists and turns from a guy who obviously did not know the Westside despite driving in NY for a living, we arrived at the haunted house, alive and unhurt. We were joking about having to pay for the ride later, but at the moment, I just wanted out of the car and not to have some weirdo persuing me in a car.
OMFG, the line for the haunted house was ridiculous. We stood there for 3 hours! I've never stood on line that long for anything. Props to those people who do it for American Idol. If I wasn't with such cool people and having such a good time laughing and chatting, I would have bailed at the 10-minute mark. Especially since it was cold, raining and I had to pee like a racehorse. (Use a port-a-potty? Fuck no! Did that once for a Harry Potter Scholastic event and I won't be doing that ever again. Could smell those things around the block!)
The house didn't really scare me, I think the group was a bit too big. But that's ok. I needed my concentration to hold my bladder. I spent most of the time complimenting people on their outfits (they really were great) and teasing them back. I charged through the thing, dragging two of my screaming groupies behind me. The thing that creeped me out the most were the people with hooks in their skin that were being pulled. Gross.
If they really wanted to scare me, all they had to do was have a person dressed as a teacher hold up failing grades with another person next to her holding up the $1000-a-credit-tuition and loan bills. I probably would have been on the floor bawling if i saw that.
After that, it was 2am and we went for karaoke. I can't sing to save my life, but it was fun. We would mostly sing the songs together so no one really had to carry the performance by themself. 3 of them have beautiful voices! They put on A Whole New World for me! We were there for about 2 hours. I got a nice headache but had a good time!
And when I came home at 5am, I was PISSED to see some fucker broke our car window! Bastard. I don't think they stole anything, there was nothing really in the car. But Goddamn, now we have to go through all this hassle to fix the window and everything. JERK.
All-in-all, great night! |

Ok, I've been up for 2 hours and already I'm worried about 2 of my friends!
One was splashed by patient blood during an emergency ECMO insertion (of course we do ECMO on half dead people. Next this person will be getting VADs on my unit).
And now my best friend might be in pre-term labor! She's only 4 months along.
SERIOUSLY FRIDAY OCTOBER 23rd 2009. THAT'S ENOUGH.
Also, is LJ acting up for anyone else? |

Good news:
Ths kitties were saved!!
The store was broken into last night, apparently shortly after I left. And the ASPCA actually did go by this morning. And PETA was great. ^__^
Bad news:
I'm being called in to testify in a case against my old job!! Meeting with the lawyer tomorrow. I realize I'm not being sued (THANK GOD), but I'm freaking out!! |

Cruelty to animals.
The courts seized the store next to my neighborhood Carvel ice cream store about a week and a half ago.
What I didn't realize until about an hour and a half ago, is that there are 2 kittens that have been trapped inside without food and water ever since!
911, 311, the ASPCA, the local news, the courts, the landlord have all been called several times. None of them did anything. Hell, we stood in front of the store, flagged down a cop car, told them the story, and they drove off!
I called the newspapers and my mom called the ASPCA again. The ASPCA knew exactly where she was calling about, they've received numerous calls about it and have finally made it a priority. They're "going in" tomorrow, but will need a warrant or something from the courts to actually "get in." So basically, they're going to stare through the glass doors at the kittens.
Personally, considering where I live, I'm suprised no one has smashed the glass and destroyed the gates yet.
I just got off the phone with PETA. Their cruelty squad will be investigating. Hopefully, shit will get done now!
I'll probably still go by with a camera tomorrow so I can email pictures to the newpapers. Two kittens behind bars in a trashed store should grab attention that words alone can't.
I am so pissed AWF! |

| I need to take up a collection for my neighbor... |
[Jul. 16th, 2009|05:54 pm] |
There's a dude in my neighborhood who plays the guitar.
Usually in the summer he starts playing incessantly, sometimes he starts at 6 in the morning. Other days he plays after 10 at night. And it's loud to boot. You can hear it over the entire block.
He's been doing this for years, but the problem is, it's always the same damn song! Not a change in the tune. And it's not like it's a good song either.
So my mom and I decided to take up a collection and buy him a guitar book for Aladdin. Then at least we could listen to something different. And decent. |

| Holy shit! |
[Jun. 26th, 2009|10:14 pm] |
There was just a HUGE accident around the corner from my house! Thank God, no one was killed. It looked and sounded a lot worse than it was.
The tires & brakes squealing and the smashing sounds felt like they lasted forever. Ran out the door (panicking that it was my family, I was never so grateful to not see a silver car....), didn't even have to guess which way to go, the whole neighborhood was headed towards the scene. I love it when people running to gawk suddenly get overcome at the first sight of carnage and have to turn away. *eyeroll* I'm proud of my neighbors though. They were all calm and helpful. No one screaming or freaking out. Although, who knows what would have happened if someone was badly injured.
When I hit the next corner debris was everywhere. Could have made another car from the amount of stuff on the ground.
Apparently, two cars were driving, one ran a light, they smashed and went in different directions. One car had it's front end trashed. Trashed. Other car hit a parked car, jumped the curb and hit a fence - this driver was pinned.
Came upon the trashed car first. Spent a few secs looking for the driver (and signs of blood), but nothing, no one there. If the door wasn't open, I would've pegged it for a parked car.
Ran to the other car where everyone was gathering. Driver was awake, talking and coherant, but his legs were pinned. By the time I got there, all I could hear was he was ok and the Fire Department and ambulances were charging our way (local station house & 1 major hospital are mere blocks away), so I stepped back and let them do their thing.
Fire department pulled out their portable generator and had to cut him out of the car. This guy is a cab driver. He was calling his buddies/company people on the radio right before the EMS people came. His buddies came by and while they were watching him get cut out, some dude from an autobody shop goes up to him and makes a salespitch! WTF? Handing out his card and everything! He's asking them if they got a shop for the car to be repaired, while the Fire Department is cutting the freakin' roof off the car! I was about to remark that it would probably be easier to just buy a new one, but decided to keep my opinions to myself. This being New York and all.... Either way, I'll bet he's gonna be making some good money, that car and the trashed car went to his shop.
As the FDNY cut the cabbie out, they shooed us away so we didn't get hit with debris or anything. I went across the street and stood by the trashed car and stared. For almost 20 minutes. My brain was not proccessing the front of that car. The front bumper was lying twenty feet away. It was hit on the right side. No idea how, but that was the point of impact because half of the front end was lifted up and to the left exposing inside. Another good chunk was ripped off and stuck under the tires, while the rest was dragging on the floor. Mind you, the car was positioned on the right side of the street with the point of impact was facing the sidewalk, so it must have done a nice big spin. But the driver was fine. Walking around and everything. I probably would have gone to the hospital just to make sure. Whiplash and all, ya know? The salesguy took this car off. The towtruck left part of the dangling front dragging on the street as it was towed away. What a racket that was. >.<;;
The FDNY freed the parked car from the cabbie's car. The owner tried to move it, but the rear axels were smashed, so it went 5 feet and the rear tires almost buckled under. It was towed too, but I don't think it went to the salesman's place.
I'm so bad, I was watching and thinking, "man, last time I tried to burn down the house, I got 5 fire trucks! Why does this only warrant 3 fire trucks?" (And a police car, and an ambulance, and some other long truck-like emergency vehicle.) |

I've got my FList set as the homepage on my desktop and laptop.
My mom has become addicted to my FList.
So here I am, panicking about my Adv Pharm exam tomorrow, and my mom, instead of doing her grad school HW, is reading my FList.
And showing me this: http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/36225342.html

Wow, so, I'm like finally here! & in one piece!
To update on the wayward plane, it took more than 15 hours to get here (for a 9-hour flight) & all they had to eat was a crappy breakfast. Glad I wasn't on that flight. Mine went smoothly, but I was still getting antsy at the 5-hour mark, like I usually do. I don't fly well. T__T
This place is incredible. I'm trying to figure out which spot has been my favorite. Karnak was incredible. I was dying to see more of the Valley of the Kings. I was annoyed they closed Nefertari's tomb in the Valley of the Queens, it's supposed to be the most beautiful. I loved the Temple of Hathor at Dendarah. Actually, I've been in love with Hathor's temple since I saw some great pics of it the other year. I made sure to go see it. That and Abu Simbel. I'm off to there tomorrow. I'm pissed I'm going to miss the special twice a year light effect by just a few stinking days!! >.<;;
It's nice to finally have an internet connection, even if only for a few minutes. I feel for the people living on the boat, it must be so boring after a while! But I guess that's when they get the time to study all the languages they know. Or for those tour guide tests.
I fail spelling today, y/y? ^__^;; |

Most horrifying wedding ever.
Seriously.
I try not to hate on people's weddings, but this... This... This is atrocious.
Once I get past the train wreck bride, her mom and her bra-corset top and get to the little girls, I want to choke a bitch.
My mom and I have been staring at this for half an hour. It's not processing in our brains. And I can't stop looking at it!
But seriously...
WAT. |

[Jan. 11th, 2009|05:21 pm] |
What the hell is going on lately?
First Great Aunt Mary got sick.
Than Grandma almost died (what, 3 times?). (Her and Mary are racing each other to the grave. This is not going to be a happy year...)
Then I got sick.
Mom is being treated miserably at work.
And just 2 hours ago, one of our dogs was put to sleep. (& I have to go to work now... T_____T)
Man, everything blows lately. |
